• Academic Showcase: Valparaiso University

In continuing our exploration through the universities that the Duneland area has to offer, I now present to you Valparaiso University. Valparaiso University, or VU, was founded in 1859 and is located in none other than the town of Valparaiso, which I'm sure you already knew. First of all, if you haven't had the chance to check out VU's campus then you need to make a trip there and take it all in. The campus is spread across 320 acres and boasts more than 60 academic buildings. In between these buildings are beautiful landscapes and enough trees and parks for everyone to find a spot to study and relax. Of course, you can't comment on the beauty of Valparaiso University without mentioning the Chapel of Resurrection. This breath taking chapel stands as the highest point on the campus and has been the monument of Valparaiso University for more than 50 years. It is simply a must see if you plan on visiting.

VU offers over 70 different majors under 5 undergraduate programs, the biggest of these is their liberal arts program. If you are looking to further your education, VU has over 40 graduate programs as well. The shining star of Valparaiso University's academic program is most definitely their prestigious law school program. VULS offers many different clinics which include: Civil, Criminal, Domestic Violence, Juvenile, Immigration, Mediation, Sports Law, Tax, and Wrongful Conviction. VU also has a medical school. For more than 40 years, Valparaiso University's College of Nursing has remained at the forefront of the nation's finest nursing programs. According to their web site, 85% of pre-med students (and 100% of those from Christ College) are admitted to medical school.

If athletics interest you, VU has something to offer there too. VU is part of the NCAA Division I and offers 9 men's and 10 women's varsity teams. Of these teams, you have probably heard of the men's basketball. They were invited to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. If varsity sports are not your calling, there are 100 co-curricular organizations to get involved in.

So you can see that there are many great things that VU has to offer. If you are someone who is looking to attend a prestigious university and wanting to stay in the Duneland area, then look no further than Valparaiso University.
